Here is the third image I have done working with Taitale Studios on their MMORTS game Novus Aeterno. Many people have been asking questions about the game "is it like EVE" "whens it out" "how much is it". Well I cant answer much except that aside from it being set in space it has very little to do with EVE, its a very different game its the first and only true MMORTS game as it has a persistent universe that never stops.
This image is my favorite, it shows a giant construction yard in space finishing off one of the dreadnought class ships, they are huge by the way. The ship is a tall ship but this POV really helped show its scale almost looking up at it.

For more info on the game and constant updates on the closed Beta head over to the games Facebook [link]

Classic Sci-fi art! Nice use of block shapes, shades, detail, and lighting to create the ship. Great perspective as it approaches the planet. Nice use of planetary glow and ship venting to give the composition some life and action. Amazing!

Yes a very similar technique using a combination of photo reference, texture brushes and normal brush work as well as custom shapes.

A persistent universe that never stops? How does that work? It sounds very much like Eve online, as Eve doesn't stop when you log out.

Yeah the same way that most MMO's work but its never been successfully applied to an RTS game, all MMORTS games tend to work in the same way as just normal multiplayer RTS games, you have a persistent "character" you level up as you play but you have a game on a ma and once you win or loose that's it it ends and you start the next game. This RTS game doesn't stop, the map is giant and each galaxy holds 10,000 players and there is nothing stopping all 10,000 players, and more if they come over from another galaxy, from getting all the fleets and having one epic battle. Its never been done before, there is an MMORTS game being made by a bigger developer called END of Nations but thye say its a true MMORTS but in actual fact its not, it has big maps with 50 players available on each map but once the match is over and you win or loose that's it, just like normal RTS games

For the record, Eve Online allows you to respawn, so it's never game over. You might lose a few skills if you die without properly updating, but you only restart when you feel like it. Eve Online is also one big sandbox, with over 5000 star systems, so it is big, but not on the scale you're talking about.

No I dont mean game over in the sense you die and cant come back, that would be the harshest game ever. But EVE isnt an RTS its a sim, this game is an RTS but unlike other RTS games you don't have one game on one map then win or loose then go off and start another game on another map, its one giant consistent map. Its a little hard to explain if you haven't seen it in action but you will soon :ahoy:

Ohhh right. I gotcha. I've played RTS games, but of course, they're all like Age of Empires or Starcraft.. flat terrain. Now that I understand what you're talking about, it sounds even better.

Hmm. Ambitious. The designers should be careful about how many players can go where, lest they end up with crashed servers. 10,000 players in one solar system would be a bit much for most computers and servers, I'd imagine.

Sounds intriguing though, and the art you're creating for it is very impressive.
