D.S.I Freighter by AdamBurn D.S.I Freighter by AdamBurn
This large fat looking thing is the He3 freighter, it transports large quantities of Helium 3 over huge distances, distances where the normal large transports can't go. It can travel much faster and farther than the other transports. There are a few of them dotted around the surface each line has 3 large depots along the way where it will be loaded up with more He3 containers.

Very nice representation. Helium will someday be a very important fuel for space exploration so helium "mining" will be vital.

That is one damn fine design and image. You really get an idea of the size of this vessel from the perspective you chose, You also showed us how cargo would be loaded into it. Spectacular!

This is really awesome, but did you use a texture for the ground? The perspective seems a little off towards the bottom right of the picture...

Love the camera-like quality (especially the dirt) of this and many of your paintings though :) great work!

Important notes :
We want to mine Helium 3 for Nuclear Fusion because it's insanely fuel efficient for its mass and volume, even 1 gram of it can power a town for long. (the second component for the fusion being as easy to find as water)

So ... if Helium3 take no volume, why do you need a transport so big it outmass the planet ? It would only make sense if you are carrying not the He3 but the regolith in need to be processed.

I will add that if you need to extract so much Helium3 ... stop extracting it from Regolith, go directly into a Gaseous planet, there like thousand time more of it.

Everything has volume, the gas extracted is compressed and stored in containers, this is the future and in this future Fusion power is king and there is a huge demand for He3 as it powers everything, mining the regolith is easy and can be done en-mass with little to no trouble. Harvesting the gas from a gas giant is insanely difficult, and massively more time consuming due to the distances.

First that kind of my point, compressed He3 doesn't take a lot of volume.

Second, mining the Regolith may seem "easy", it doesn't mean it's cost-efficient (there's really little on the Moon).
Harvesting from a gas giant may be complex, but cost-effective if the technology allow it (technology = handmade miracle).

To the point that distance may become irrelevant. If you need 1000k tons of installation to extract what you need from the moon, but 10k tons from a gas giant, the added cost of fuel/reactive-mass could be nothing. (Also, Jupiter/Saturn have plenty of moon)

Said another way, it would be like searching gold nugget in rivers nowadays.

Anyway, don't let my rambling distract you, I LOVE your drawing.
