Eden Rising by AdamBurn Eden Rising by AdamBurn
The 2999, Mankind has come so far in the last 1000, learnt so much and changed, living in peace on Mars and in huge space stations. Their technology turned towards a cleaner future to preserve the planet they now called home, terraforming technology meant Mars fast became a place of salvation during the worst climate turn Earth ever had in the late 2100's. Mankinds constant use of fosil fuels and strip mining finally caught up with them, the Earth was changed far beyond repair no matter how much they changed, instead of fighting a losing battle to save Earth with their early terraforming technology they decided to leave the planet to its fate and a mass exodus was started, huge station held many millions, many more moved onto the Martian surface, too many where lost to the Earths hostile state.
Now at the dawn of a new millenium the changed people decided to celebrate this monumental time by sending their latest technological marvel to Earth, a fleet consisting of 5 huge monolithic ships, together they formed the Genesis Rising fleet, a Terraforming fleet using advanced terraforming technology beyond anything mankind could have imagined. Their mission, retake Earth, a process taking 7 days, turning the planet from a hostile, dusty, lifeless world into a new eden, a beacon of hope, a monument to mankinds will. A new dawn has arrived, Genesis has arrived.

New image for the new Luminarium exhibit "GENESIS" a different looser style was used for this image, all painted using custom bruses and my usual collection of textures and some cloud photos.

I like the concept. But why do you say that this is beyond anything mankind could have imagined if they are the ones developing the technology? Wouldn't they have to imagine it?
As a personal aside I also don't find the design of the ships to encompass a race of advanced beings. The universe is circular and if we have such amazing technology I think that there would be a greater emphasis on harmonious geometry, not violent shapes.
Anyway, great work. Hope you do more of these.

The statement refers to the technology being so advanced that Mankind where taken by surprise that they could create something so advanced, like in present day I constantly get surprised by certain advances in technology we have come up with, fusion power just blows my mind, the civilian population in this story would react in the same way if their scientists managed to make such a huge leap in technology.
Also the design of the ships incorporates both form and function, the ships needed to be very tall in order for their gasses to reach high into the atmosphere quickly, they also needed to be tall to house the giant Terra-forming beam generator that spans the entire hight of the ship. The ships are sail shaped, ellipse if viewed from the top or bottom, they then taper inwards to a point like giant spires, a monolithic shape to both symbolise their height of technological advancement and their will. But like with all designs one of the main factors is, does it look good, no point in designing something that's functional if it at least doesn't look appealing.

I love the atmosphere and the story behind the visual. It's like a scene from the movie " The Chronicles of Riddick " when the huges spaceships arrived on a planet (maybe earth, I don't remenmber)!

Very interesting work and story. :)

It looks amazing!

You never cease to amaze me.

I have two questions though:

1) What is this GENESIS? Is it a game, movie or what?

2) Did you do this one in the computer or did you paint it in real life? Or half and half?

Ah ok! The work looks incredible and all but, (please don't take this as an insult) it looks like something is missing with the lights: it seems that the leftmost part of the picture is a little too dark. Not greatly so, but gives off a feeling that the lightening hadn't been completely finished there.
Aka. doesn't look like it is natural, or even possible, even with the shadow that great towering ship/building there.
I don't know whether you were testing something with the lights but I don't think it is normal for a lightning to be so dark/fade. Of course I am only talking about the lightnings in the left end in the middle. I simply feel like it is supposed to be clearer(more stark) than that. Otherwise it gives of this unnatural hue that makes me feel like it is partially transparent.

And again, please don't take this badly, I am just pointing out what I think I saw. I may just be misinterpreting things but I am simply telling you what I feel about it.

I love this work however, this is just some minor thing I thought could look better. And as a proof of I have put it as a backround in my computer. I hope that is alright with ye?

Holy crap, that's a good storyline. You could write a series of books starting with that. Then again, maybe someone already has. O.o

Once Earth is reclaimed, next step: colonize the undergrounds of Europa!
