This chunky looking thing was originally dubbed the "Bunker" and was also originally a smaller class of ship but having since dropped its class from the game we decided to resurrect the design for use as a larger Capital ship.
The ship is very heavily armoured and is meant as a closer quarters support vessel, it has tons of point defences and abilities that uses agro to force enemy ships to engage it rather than other ships in the fleet, its a tank and can take a lot of punishment. Its weapon systems aren't very powerful and mostly consist of point defences to counter fighters and bombers.
It primary function is to act as a buffer between the enemies fleet and your own soaking up vast amounts of damage that would otherwise cripple lesser ships

Also here is the latest alpha gameplay footage form the game where you can see another Capital ship (the Basilisk) being used, the model is old and is currently undergoing a re-modelling. [link]

Ahh, well the background stuff is always there I just make it invisible as they are on separate layers, all ships are on the same perspective grid and roughly the same size so I resize them to fit as and when needed.

Ah ok super thanks for the reply :) All your work is looking really good. Whats your drive to do a project like that? It must be hard, is it in your spare time with friends or whats the situation? :)

No the studio is a full game developer, we were at the PAX games convention in September where this game Novus Aeterno was unvieled to the public for the first time, its been in development for the past 4 years and started by a 19 year old who wanted to make a true MMORTS game set in space. We all came onto the project after being contacted by the guy who started it. I now work full time for the studio as do many others, there are about 11 people on the development team, and a further 4-5 on the business and admin side of things. We are indie but quite well equipped compared to most indie devs

It is good working in a small group as everyone has a say in the games development, we all guide the game in our own way whereas in a larger dev group that's left to the people who have been assigned that job. At PAX the game was well received as it was the first time its been shown to the public, we quickly made quite a reputation for ourselves :ahoy:
