MIG by AdamBurn MIG by AdamBurn
The second illustration commission done for a secret game project, the other image was the Chinook.
If you know your planes this is a variant of a Russian MIG fighter jet, an awesome looking plane.
Photoshop only, some reference.
approx 3 hours

(UPDATE: after some helpful critique and after working on the new F16 I realised the MIG was a little sparse in surface detail, I looked at some images of MIG's and added some join lines, vents, notches, rivets and a camo pattern, why planes need camo I don't know but it looks cool)

As an airplane fanatic, I must say that this MiG-29 Fulcrum fighter looks absolutely stunning! The MiG-29 Fulcrum is my favorite Russian aircraft, next to the Blackjack bomber and the Hind helicopter.

Сплющенный миг однако получился, фонарь кривой, гос маркировка тоже криво лежит, элероны в положении поворота (бочки) а завихрения не в тему... итд итп.

Не верю! Станиславский

Planes have camo on top so if another plane comes down on them, they're harder to see.

Really great work here! Until you look closely it looks like a snapshot of a MIG in flight. And the camo was a good choice. Those planes have to land somewhere, sometime.

I don't understand why they have camo either (to blend in with clouds?) but it looks amazing none the less...
Kind of feel bad for the off screen target as well XP

That vent appears out of place; regardless. Camo was effective in the air during certain conditions. And it was effective on the ground in order to hide parked fighters from enemy air-forces.

In the air, certain camo colors made the plane very hard to see physically in the air. None-more-so if it was a bright blue sky and the plane in question was blue and white, makes it hard to spot with the eyes.

Otherwise, I like the new look :D

Thanks, the vents are in the right place, its just the curves on the plane that make it look odd, there are two either side of the cockpit, just further back of it. This plane has way too many odd curves on it, from any angle something looks odd.

hehe, I think the plane itself looks awesome to be honest. But yea, not being able to see the other vent is probably what caused me to think it was out of place.

this is the perfect Mig-29. Did you base this on a particular variant?

not sure really, I know there are way too many variants to name, I think this is more closer to the 29

At first i thought it might have been a cross between the UB-12 and K variants. But your right it is closer to the original variant. either way the designers of the original aircraft would be proud of this.

Planes need camo for the same reason guns need red&black camo. Aesthetics and intimidation.

The planes need camo patterns to make sure that if enemy plane is above them he wont get easy eyecontact. That is why the planes that battle in deserts are yellow/orange/brown colored. To blend with the ground xD
And I have been told from pilots that this is very helpful sometimes :) Nice work :P

sweet. love the new update with all the extra gadgets n all. also I'm assuming that they need camo for when they hide the planes on the ground.

Very good job. I love it.

And as for planes needing camo, the theory is that planes above the said plane (in this case, the MIG) look down on top of the MIG and see camo, which makes it harder to see, depending on the type of camo and terrain beneath the plane. The bottom of the plane is usually a shade of blue for the same effect, but for planes looking up into the sky at it. Hope that makes sense!

Camo is, so they won't be visible while standing on a ground :)

Hehe, yea, that's true :D Anyway, they're doing their job in the air, so they're kind of useless on the ground

Nay sirs. In WW2, we painted our carrier aircraft to be blue on top and white on bottom, so it would be harder to spot them visually over water. Camo still serves the same purpose. That particular pattern would be for overland flying, but the theory is the same.

Oh, I see now! Well, I was guessing upper body camo, is to be harder to spot from air, and bottom camo - from the ground, but thanks for telling that.
