Here is the second submission from the new Luminarium pack this image is part of a 3-4 part project based on the forerunners from the Halo games, this was inspired mostly from the new game Halowars which is awesome. It shows a dyson sphere type construct which is earthlike on the outside but very hostile as almost all the surface is ice, however inside is a lush utopia with its own artificial sun.
To the left you can even see one of the moons being mined for resources to build the huge thing, me thinks they will be needing some more moon.

Add a Comment:
Looking fantastic dude, the artificial sun and glowing core of the resource moon really compliment and give nice contrast to the blues and purples you used. The outer glow of both the sphere and the moon really help to give it a stark, cold feel and really push the idea of warmth on the inside. Everything is looking very volumetric as well, and I love the way you composed the unfinished parts of the Dyson structure. The rigid, geometric quarry sections of the moon are also awesome, the way it's mined down by the little ships.

One thing that I think you could push a little further are the greens and the blues a little bit inside the sphere, to really help nail the idea that there's an Earth-like surface inside, because it took me a second to really notice it. I might bump the contrast a tad, and give it just a bit more saturation, so it doesn't seem that the sun is washing it out so much. And the only other thing I think could use a tiny bit of tweaking is the unfinished structure bits on the lower right. Could use just a little more curvature to match the rest of the sphere.

Other than that, I think you did a fantastic job with the rendering and the composition is solid. As far as the rule of thirds go, things are composed very well and keep your eye moving around the piece. And despite the heavy Halo influence, you really managed to make it something of your own. Good work, keep 'em coming.
What do you think?

I absolutely love this, I don't have much negative criticism, I think the lighting is very good as well is the composition, colours and idea. The only thing I dont fully get us why the lighting is like that on the small planet shouldnt it be equal over the whole planet on not just one bulb if you get what I mean, although I just might be wrong and it sill is a great piece of artwork and defiantly one of the better space pieces here at deviantart.

Just the whole idea of a sun in an artificial planet is great!!
I hope to see mu and much more of these kinds of works, you gotta love them!..

I've seen this Dyson Sphere posted everywhere online, especially in science articles about astro-engineering. Good work.

Yeah it gets around, more so recently when the article about possible alien megastructures orbiting a distant star popped up :)

Reminds me very much of a Dyson Sphere, which is simply amazing. I love this instant favorite. Great work! :D

It feels very meta to realize that they're not real.

A "small" Dyson Sphere with a miniature sun on the inside? Really cool concept!

It's looks under construction kinda reminds me of the Death Star in Return of The Jedi.

But how the heck do they keep the miniature sun from scorching the inside of the sphere? And how do they make the gravity travel "outwards" inside the sphere? And how do they do this without making it fall apart? And what about day-night cycles?

Its a very popular image when related to the Dyson Sphere subject so it gets used a lot, I do get asked for permission now and then but it's impossible to make sure they all give credit sadly.

This is lovely. I've seen it pop up in search engines before, but had yet to follow it back to its source. I am a writer for Universe Today, would you mind if I used it in an article I am doing?

Thanks, and I do not mind at all so long as proper credit is given :ahoy:

Words cannot describe...I think I've fainted. I think I've fainted. I think I've fainted.

My jaw dropped when I saw all the details you put in.

This is brilliant. A perfect image of what the forerunners are capable of. Very few images capture this scale so skillfully.

Out of curiosity, what method did you use to create the outer surface of the shield world? (I was going to attempt to recreate Requiem from Halo 4)

Fantastic job, btw!
