Telikos Protocol - Hammerhead Gunship by AdamBurn Telikos Protocol - Hammerhead Gunship by AdamBurn
(UPDATE: Fixed a perspective issue with the tail and middle wings)

Issue 2 of Telikos Protocol is on it's way soon and it shows a lot more of the military hardware developed by E.D.G.E. This is the Hammerhead VTOL Gunship, a very nasty and very well armed piece of kit, it has many variants each one becoming progressively more nuts regarding it's load out.
The craft itself is rather large and is able to carry not just masses of weaponry but also masses of troops and other hardware. The large wings are fixed but have large slats running along them halfway down, these are vector thrust vents that allow fast moving air to be shot out of them which is produced by that massive dorsal jet engine which also produces it's forward thrust, basically it's very similar to how the Harrier Jump Jet works, only much fatter.

hum, being a drawing and perspective instructor, it is not accurate. So you can find my postings on my site and to those that would like to see it corrected. I hope this can be of great use. I happened to love drawing very technical items in accurate views. I have drafting back ground so I can help. There are 5 images to illustrate it in my gallery.

I have learned technical drawing about 3 years + extra 4 years in art school, so I draw few simple perspective lines to show that this is quite correct: [link] - only guns on front aren't quite correct, but maybe one of them is just turned? Who knows.. Also I believe this is more like concept art so i think it can be a little bit "sketchy"?!?

there's a very similar VTOL gunship called 'Hammerhead' in CnC3: Kane's Wrath. Is this based off that?

So there is, but no I wasn't aware at the time there was a Hammerhead gunship in that game. It's called the Hammerhead due to the odd wing and weapon arrangement at the front and the dorsal "fins"

Very cool indeed. It reminds me of the UNSC Pelican Dropship, from the Halo Series. Visually similar, but really unique nonetheless.

I like it! Reminds me of the cover art style of the Cassandra Kresnov series, both in the art style and the style of ship. I think I'll keep this on hand next time I read through it ;)

Is this a loose concept Adam? Are you doing an ortho sheet? Scott Roberson, an industrial designer whom feng studied at Art c always said draw through the object esp when you have something blocking one form with another. The small wing has a slight problem as well as the tail in perspective. I would assume from a general stand point they are symmetrical. Other than that, love the look, design aspects.

The front wings are ok and actually the little vertical tails on the larger wings were actually following the exact same perspective lines it's actually the tail that's causing the issue, I'm going back into it to actually adjust the middle vertical tail on the far side of the ship, raising it up more should fix the issue. As with the way I made it I always have a 3D image in my head of what's where and often create the areas that are hidden by other parts usually for future use if I need to do a different view of the craft.

hum, I don't think it's accurate as I am a well acquainted with traditional perspective drawing. So you can find my postings on my site and to those that would like to see it corrected. I hope this can be of great use. I happened to love drawing very technical items in accurate views. I have drafting back ground so I can help. There are 5 images to illustrate it in my gallery. :)

I looked them over but this wasn't done using that method of perspective work, it was done using single point perspective to the far left of the image, re creating the lines you get this: [link] whislt not perfect it does enough to get the design across. Also the wings are not straight they sweep forward slightly and the tips do not taper down to such a degree where they would become obscured by the wings main body, in yours the left side wing looks larger and fatter than the right sided wing.

What you shown is still a 2 point perspective, perpendicular fuselage going to the left, and head to tail going back to the right. one point will be a straight looking down the railroad tracks. Yes that was what i said before, " is this a rough concept" on the original comment.
The other is if the wing was sweeping forward, then you as the concept artist need to choose a point in the pov to show that clearly, don't you think? it is communication, visual that is. That is why i also asked, are you making a orth sheet.
and yes for any foreshorten view no matter how small of how deep of a slant, one view from the observer, will loose the angle if coming too at you:)

Yeah I get that, it might just be because I made it and have its layout in my head that I can see the wings sweeping forwards slightly, the pov is such because it was being create in tandem with a panel in the comic in which the craft appears in the same view, essentially killing 2 birds with one stone. It isn't a fully realised concept nor is it perfect, later on for the volume a mroe refined version will be created, more details and probably a better pov :ahoy:
