Recently I have joined a group of 4 people involved in whats called the Games Academy, an awards kinds of thing where you pitch a game idea to a series of judges and they decide if its good enough, if it is then you go through to the next stage, I have been drafted in as the environment artist, they have got past the first stage and now were just doing loads of concepts, if we do a good job then we get to develop the game for Xbox.
The concept for the game is a space based flight simulator/ FPS with each team (2) having a big base ship, you then try to fly towards the enemy ship, board it and then destroy it, kind of a cross between battlefield 2142 and Starwars Battlefront.
Anyway the map ideas are pretty cool, this is one of those concepts, the battle takes place over the sun, crazy stuff but visually striking.
Thanks, as for tips there are quite a few good tutorials that will teach you some tricks of the trade as well as some great magazines such as Imagine FX which is always a good read and has lots of pointers
This is much hardcore than mine.
i'm actually planning to go into this field as a character designer. any tips?
