Thousands of years this race lived with the godly sight of a galactic core which iluminated one side of there world and even out shined their own sun. Living with this sight this galactic marvel became revered by this race who saw it as their god, they beleived it was there goal in life to reach it and become one with there god and be reunited with lost friends, family, and loved ones.

Thousands of years past, many things changed but their belief remained the same and one day their technology provided the means of getting them where they wanted to go. Finally their ships left their system and in stasis embarked on a journey that would take them millions of years to complete. But what will they find? What will be waiting for them once they reach thier god.

It reminds me of the Sombrero galaxy with that thick band of dust! I also like that classic starship look!

This picture has been in my favorites for some time now; I just thought you might like to know that I used it as inspiration for describing the sight of a galaxy in my fiction; I credited you and linked back :). Here: [link]

The image is utterly amazing to the eyes. Yet it's saddening to know those who go searching for their "God" will only perish due to immense radiation or black holes once they get there. lol

just wondering if you start with a large canvas with a large dpi is it an effective way to work on the detail so that when it's uploaded you can shrink the size and it make it look better?

I have to ask, because I never manage to get it: how to you scale down the stars? Every time I scale the image down I lose all of my starfield detail.

In photoshop if you make the image smaller you do loose a lot of detail and quality, you can overcome this by either using a setting in the image size tab at the bottom which should have 3 different settings. In CS2 it says Nearest Neighbour, this will make the image a lot sharper, in CS3 there is a setting called..... actually I cant remmember but it says in brackets (Best for reduction) that does the same thing. If you want to though you can just forget those settings and just add a Sharpen Filter to the image once resized, I tend to use Smart Sharpen as you get complete comtrol to the amount of sharpen and the effect.

Right so I've done that in the past but never got results that satisfied me, particularly since Nearest Neighbor tends to give planets jagged edges. I've been considering resizing the starfield and the rest of the image separately so as to avoid the problem altogether... I guess I just need to stop being so lazy and do it :P

Hmm, usually I will use the blur tool on areas where the scaling down process creates jagged areas
