And so another year passes by another year of achievements, mistakes, happiness, sadness, and oportunity. So much has happened in the past year so much that will change everything from this point onwards, so this is my year in review and a look into what could happen in the year ahead.
Early in 2012 I was still working with Taitale Studios on their upcoming MMORTS Novus Aeterno but in May my time there ended due to my own slip ups and the result left me in a position where I began to question my own talents suffice to say I was not in a good shape I had lost my job, a job I had always wanted but like with all bad situations there is always a silver lining and this was no exception. After a few days of assessing my situation and thanks to a load of reassuring comments from you guys here on DA I pushed on rather than slipping further into a slump.
The lull in work meant I was able to concentrate on Telikos Protocol more than I had ever been able to before and progress stormed along, we released a Kickstarter to raise enough funds to get the first 3 issues printed with a target of $9,500 which was flattened in just 3 days, we were shocked as every new milestone was blasted through until we hit the end and came out with over $50,000, with the motivational blast this gave work increased and so did exposure for the project which resulted in a lot of great articles and some other very interesting articles where "experts" would slam the project and it's creators for using Kickstarter when they obviously don't need the money... Interesting read considering how little they know about my life and especially my financial situation. But like a friend of mine said "you know when you have got something great when you get your first haters".
We went on to release the first issue in New York of all places, an experience I will never forget and will always be the moment when Telikos really came into the lime light, from then on it was all go, reviews came in and the first issue was universally loved for it's new direction of artwork and gripping story, once we returned from the show I found that my skills had become much more desirable, work came flooding in from working on book covers all the way up to full feature length movie work. This meant for the the first time I was able to permanently work as a freelance artist.
The last few months of 2012 bought a mass of opportunities and thanks to that I am now working on some very exciting projects with some really big ones stating in the new year and one that, if it plans out, will change a lot more things in my life.
Alas the last month or so of 2012 was a mixed bag, whilst on the art front things were only improving my own personal health was not. Due to the epic influx of work I eventually crashed, I won't go into details but my workflow suffered a lot and so did my attention, it was a good time for it to happen though the holidays were just about to start and work inevitably stopped for the time which gave me time to recover.
Now I am back and whilst I am not yet 100% a new year is ahead, it's once more into the fray and this year is already shaping up to become one of the busiest and most interesting years of my life. Telikos is going from strength to strength with talks of a movie deal in the works, 2013 will see the release of issues 2,3,4, and possibly even 5, the first volume (contains first 3 issues and a ton of artwork and invitational work from other artists) and that's just Telikos.
I become giddy with excitement when looking ahead but also a massive dread looms over, I have slipped before and because of that doubt will always be lurking in my mind but I'm confident, I have always just worked on other peoples projects and now with my own project becoming bigger and bigger I have to be focused, besides with all this work I won't have time to doubt myself.
This day and age it's accepted that social media plays a huge part in our life, I have never really been one for diving face fist into Facebook or Twitter, alas I don't know how it even work, but Deviant Art has always played a huge part in my life as an artist and it's the admiration, support, and critique that all of you give that has enabled me to get to where I am. So thank you all, without your constant input I fear my artistic career would have ended long ago. So a toast, to the new year and to all of you
Happy New Year!!
